If you do end up with a temperature headroom, you have to consider the fact that the power circuitry is probably quite limited and only designed to handle the stock i5. ![]() Since there were no configurations for this laptop with an i7 I have to wonder if the cooling is good enough to handle the i5 beyond stock speeds. The G580 came with only two options and you're already upgrading to the best CPU available, I can see you've checked it before. With laptops you have to make sure it supports the exact CPU you want to get. How hard is it to look up "lenovo g580 motherboard" and look at a picture?Īnyway. ![]() With all the "educated" guesses I've seen on here I'd honestly tell Linus to stop telling people to ask anything on here. Im pretty sure that you wouldn’t be able to overclock either, considering the you either can’t access the BIOS, or if you can it’s heavily restricted. How are you going to replace the CPU? For 99.99% of laptops it is physically soldered to the board. ![]()
